June 1st!

Dear 6th Grade Students,

This week it is crucial that we focus on our presentation at The Exhibition, which should be a PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT. This is not the usual ‘presentation of information’. In other words, as with every unit, the summative assessment is NOT about the lines of inquiry, but about your understanding of the Central idea and your Action.

Please keep in mind that you will have around 20 minutes to communicate UNDERSTANDING and present and ACTION--besides answering questions.

Your performance assessment can be as creative as you wish. This is the perfect opportunity to display your talents!

Your action should have been already carried out, and concrete evidence of it should be on display for visitors to see.

Certainly, your tutors will evaluate your knowledge (information collected about the lines of inquiry) but not during your presentation; they will do it at some other time. The same is true for Attitudes and Transdisciplinary Skills, which should be evident in your Process Journals.

In other words: The focus for this "last week" should be on a creative performance that clearly communicates UNDERSTANDING of the Central idea through your chosen issue, as well as your designed ACTION for our community (school, neighbourhood, town).

If you have already answered all 8 Key Concept Questions (the task for last week) you can now be sure that you do UNDERSTAND and are prepared to confidently answer questions from the different people who will come to your presentation next week.

Remember: BE CREATIVE IN SHOWING THAT YOU UNDERSTAND, AND CARRY OUT AN ACTION IN OUR COMMUNITY. If you do that, you will have a great Exhibition!

Warm regards,

Ms. Fayad
